1. Doing "A" Before "B": 〜前に (mae ni)

To express that you do an action before another action, use 前に.前

The Golden Rules of Connection:

1. Verbs: Use the Dictionary Form (Plain Non-Past) + 前に.前
2. Nouns: Use Noun + の + 前に.前

[Action A: Dictionary Verb / Noun + の] + 前に、[Action B]
"Before doing A, I do B."

⚠️ The Golden Rule of Tense:

The verb directly preceding 前に must always be in the dictionary form, regardless of whether the overall sentence is in the present, future, or past tense. The tense of the entire sentence is determined solely by the final verb.前

2. Doing "B" After "A": 〜後で (ato de)

To express that you do an action after completing another action, use 後で.後

1. Verbs: Use the た-Form (Plain Past) + 後で.後
2. Nouns: Use Noun + の + 後で.後

[Action A: た-Form Verb / Noun + の] + 後で、[Action B]

The verb preceding 後で must always be in the た-form (past tense). This is because Action A must be completed before Action B can begin. Just like with 前に, the final verb determines the overall tense of the sentence.後前
