JLPT N3 Mock Exam (Main Guide)
JLPT N3 Masterclass: Mini Mock Exam & Core Grammar Breakdown
Welcome to your N3 milestone! The JLPT N3 is the bridge between daily conversational Japanese (N4/N5) and abstract, professional Japanese (N2/N1). To pass, you must master nuanced grammar patterns and intermediate-level Kanji.
This guide features high-yield N3 grammar explanations, a mini mock exam, and an elite-level breakdown of the answers.
Part 1: High-Yield N3 Grammar Spotlight
1. ~わけにはいかない (Cannot afford to / Must not)
- Structure:
Verb (Dictionary Form) + わけにはいかない - Meaning: You cannot perform an action due to social, moral, or situational obligations (not physical impossibility).
- Example:
- 明日、大切な試験があるから、今夜は遊ぶわけにはいかない。
- As I have an important exam tomorrow, I cannot afford to play tonight.
2. ~うちに (While / Before a state changes)
- Structure:
Verb (Dictionary/いる/ない) + うちにい-Adj + うちに|な-Adj + なうちに|Noun + のうちに
- Meaning: Do something before the current state changes, or a change naturally occurs during a state.
- Example:
- 温かいうちに、スープを食べてください。
- Please eat the soup while it is still warm.
Part 2: Kanji & Vocabulary Focus
準備 (じゅんび) — Preparation

- 準 (Standard/Prepare): Features the water radical (氵) on the left. 13 strokes.
- 備 (Provide/Equip): Features the person radical (亻) on the left. 12 strokes.
- Tutor Tip: Remember, you need water (氵) to set a standard (準), and a person (亻) to prepare (備).

Tutor's Study Tip for N3 Success
When studying N3 grammar, never memorize patterns in isolation. Always learn them with their accompanying particles (e.g., わけには, のうちに) and practice writing one personal sentence per grammar point to lock it into your long-term memory!
